Meet: Tania Friemelt (A young 41) from Parys, Freestate.
Tell us a little bit about…
…what you do: I stepped out of the Corporate World about a year ago. I am essentially a home-maker (domestic goddess according to my partner, Mike), an artist, and occasionally help Mike with the running of his business. I am currently working on my dream job, products to open an Etsy shop.
…your Family: Live with my loving partner Mike, my Kerry Blue Terrier, Rafferty, my siamese-cross, Coco, my bearded dragon, Jack, my three goldfish and one algae eater, as well as Mike’s two kitties, Shadow & Marco. My kids share our home with us every second weekend and half of the holidays.
…what you do in your spare time: I am extremely blessed. I have loads of spare time. I love crafting, crocheting, painting, decorating our home, and socialising with close friends.
Where would you go:
On a date/date night: We both work from home so our time is own. We love sitting on our patio, soaking up the sun and enjoying tea, toast and preserves. Should we choose to go out, every lunch and dinner is a date. We love going to fine restaurants in Parys and on our travels.
For coffee with the girls: I am a coffee snob, so I choose my coffee venues wisely.
Weekend Lunch with Friends: One of the advantages of living in a small town is that we are privileged that we can entertain at home with home-cooked meals or take-aways from fine restaurants served in our dining room. Accompanied by loads of fun and laughter
For a bit of R&R: We have a beautiful home and love spending time in it, and our quirky town. If not here, you will find us visiting Clarens or Cape Town.
Shops you love:
Clothes: I enjoy wearing clothes that are unique and one of a kind, therefore, you will find me shopping at boutiques and thrift stores. We have a designer in town who’s clothes I absolutely adore.
Food: I don’t cook. My man is the chef in the house. I love prepared meals, hence you will find me at Woollies, our local Deli or a friends home, when Mike is out of town.
Home ware: No idea, you will have to ask Mike
Vintage: There are an overabundance of antique, vintage and second-hand shops on our doorstep. We are spoilt for choice.
Other: Our local wool shops. I am addicted to crocheting at the moment, so frequent our wool shops at least once a week.
Your best bargain haunts? Our local thrift and second-hand shops. Antique shops, especially when new shipments are due.
Your bargain buys of the month/year/ decade: Our cost of living. One of the big benefits of living in a small town is that in general our expenses are far less than living in the big city. For example, we walk to most shops instead of using the car, hair dressing and beauty salon expenses are a third of the price. Most of our furniture is sourced locally, be it thrift or antique stores.
In our Make Up bag what products can’t you live without and why? Lip gloss, moisturizer and my smile. It is the only make-up I wear.
Share 3 tips: Could be beauty secrets, bargain buys or household tips:
1. Buy clothes and shoes at end-of-season sales. I always find amazing pieces.
2. Home-cooked meals with friends is far cheaper and loads of fun.
3. Buying digital books and magazines cost far less, and saves on space, is eco-friendly and dust-free.
3 things about you would SPLURGE on:
1. Books, books, books!
2. I have a huge soft spot for delicate lace dresses.
3. I am not able resist most vintage dolls.
3 things about you would SAVE on:
1. Food (I eat like a bird!)
2. Furniture (An over-abundance of second-hand, thrift and antique shops help a lot!)
3. Clothes (I love to wear unique pieces, but don’t like paying an arm and a leg for them)

Posted by gunsblazingblog | August 24, 2012, 1:49 pmI love your idea of “Friday’s Fabulous Follower.” Reading about Tania and how happy she is now. Just think…her story begins with her decision to step out of the corporate world a year ago. Reading about her is inspiring me to do the same.
