There is nothing quite like the smell of frying bacon. Most people in the world would agree to that statement. Unless you are a vegetarian, of course.
Think about a lazy Saturday morning, with a late breakfast on the patio; bacon and eggs and other delectable goodies to accompany them, piles of buttered toast; delicious marmalade, and superb coffee. Yum!
I love bacon but lately I’ve been disturbed to see how expensive it is getting. I have seen prices upwards of R23 per packet of 250gms. I saw some last week for R30 for a 250 gm packet. You would be forgiven if you took it right off the menu. At that price it can only be affordable as a condiment!
Take heart. I have found the solution. Eskort Wiltshire cured Bacon Cutts (sic) sells at most supermarkets for R59,95 per kilo. That works out to R15 per 250gms. This is a standard price, not a special price. However keep your eyes open, as I saw in a Checkers Hyper ad from May this year, they had it on special at R45,95 per kilo. Wow. I’m sorry I missed that one!
You will have to sort it out into manageable portions to suit your needs, but you can freeze what you don’t need immediately.
Enjoy pigging out on bacon again!
