…on Long Road.
When you think ‘antiques shopping’ in Joburg, the first place that would pop into your mind might be Parkhust or maybe Rosebank, but let me let you in on a little secret; Long Road in Newlands, Johannesburg.
Lined with over thirteen stores with stock ranging from bric-a-brac to classy high-end antiques. I would recommend parking at the Shoprite at the top of the road and walking down the street, that way you don’t miss anything out. Take something to drink and wear comfortable shoes, ‘cause it is going to be a long day!
One of my favourites was Mahalah’s, they have a beautiful selection of vintage lights and interesting bits and pieces but the highlight of the street has to be Huntersrest Antiques which is two floors of antique indulgence. It has a feel of an old Johannesburg hotel, but it is in fact a new conversion made authentic by the owners’ collection of antique doors and windows. If you go on a Saturday you will be treated to coffee and cake on the house. (See FREE Fun#7)
