The reality of being on holiday only really sets in for me when I see the sea. There is a euphoric sense of complete freedom and nothing to do for the rest of the day except while away the hours in the sun. I haven’t been to Durban on holiday for years so it was a delightful surprise to see the uSkaka Development along the harbour bustling even in the pre-tourist season.
After wandering through the uShaka Marine World we decided to follow the advice of our grumbling tummies and lunch along the beach. Most of the restaurants in the mall face inward so you don’t have any sea view which is a little disappointing. One of the only restaurants with a glimpse of the beach is Moyo. I love Moyo but it tends to be a bit on the pricey side and frequented only on special occasions.
Needing an excuse to ease our conscience we decided that our special occasion would be our end of year function – I mean every company needs a Christmas party doesn’t it. So with the decision made and guilt eased we walked along the pier to the Moyo Bar. The Bar is surrounded by sea and has the most magnificent views. They have a really nice snack/mezze menu which was actually reasonably priced, much to the joy of our frugal pockets! The only word to describe the experience is sublime. A tantalizing, cool ocean breeze, a tall glass of ice tea in hand and a mouthful of marinated chilli, garlic and coriander olives, stuffed pepperdew and dukka bread. – Bliss!
With nowhere to go and nothing to do we spent a good couple of hours reclining and drifting away on the gentle waves. So our recommendation, Moyo at uShaka is a must! A perfect start to the holiday!
More to come….
